Preparing the Leaning Object in GeoGebra

What you do at this point depends upon the particular mathematics topic and also your GeoGebra knowledge and skill level.  Information concerning the operation of GeoGebra can be found at the GeoGebra site or on a companion wiki page Open Source Software Dynamically Linking Number, Algebra, and Geometry.

For the purposes of this workshop you will use one of the two pre-constructed GeoGebra activities below.  If you are interested in secondary school mathematics use the Exploring Transformations of the Quadratic Function example below developed in GeoGebra or if you have GeoGebra on your computer you can download/open the application by clicking here.  If you are more interested in elementary school mathematics topics you could use the Double Picture example below developed in GeoGebraPrim, the version of GeoGebra for students up to Grade 6 (Primary school in Europe).  If you have GeoGebraPrim on your computer you can download/open the Double Picture example by clicking here.

Before going on to the Creating the Applet Code section below play with your selected example to get a sense of its function.  You can always restore the GeoGebra activity to its original state by clicking on the Reset Construction icon .

Creating the Applet Code

Click: File > Export > Dynamic Worksheet as Webpage (html) …

Click Export as Webpage

Click Advanced and add a title (in this case change the title) for the applet and add (in this case change) the author.

Select appropriate Functionality and User Interface items.  These options determine the menu items and tools that will be presented to the students.

For these applets you likely want just Show icon to reset construction

Click the drop-down menu that shows File: html and select the appropriate option:

Clipboard: html if your are using a PBworks wiki, Wikispaces wiki, or Desire to Learn LMS

Clipboard: MediaWiki if you are using MediaWiki to support your course

Clipboard: Moodle if you are using the Moodle LMS

Click: Clipboard

The Java code for the applet is now on your clipboard ready to be pasted into a wiki page or a page in your LMS.  See the Putting the Applet on a Wiki or LMS Page section below.

View the video below if you would like to see a demonstration of the process described above.

Putting the Applet on a Wiki or LMS Page

The steps for embedding the applet in a page differ slightly for each application: PBworks, Wikispaces, D2L, and Moodle.  These seem to be the popular applications in Ontario and will be illustrated on the pages linked below
