The cable laying costs for land and water could be "hard coded" into the cost formula, but in GeoGbera constructions it is usually best to leave values variable. In this way adjustments can be made by just inputting new values.
The problem statement says that the per km costs of laying cable are
on land: $20.5M
on water: $31.4M
These are values reported in engineering studies related to laying power cables. Other values can be used.
For simplicity in graphing we will use the values 20.5 and 31.4 and indicate the $M on the axis.
1. Via the Input window introduce a LandCost variable with value of 20.5 (LandCoast=20.5)
2. Introduce a WaterCost variable with value 31.4
3. If you later wish to change these values:
- In the Algebra window double left-click on the object name
- Change the value
4. Via the Input window introduce a TotalCost formula
